Key Takeaways:

  • Bombardier's new Global 8000 business jet features the lowest cabin altitude of any in production, set at 2,691 feet while flying at 41,000 feet.
  • This industry-leading low cabin altitude is designed to significantly enhance passenger comfort, breathability, and reduce pressure during ultra-long-range flights.
  • The Global 8000 also boasts impressive performance, including a top speed of Mach 0.95 (making it the fastest civilian aircraft since Concorde) and an 8,000 nm range.
  • Bombardier expects the Global 8000 to enter service later this year.

Bombardier announced Tuesday that its new Global 8000 now offers the lowest cabin altitude of any business jet in production.

The Canadian aerospace manufacturer said the Global 8000 has a cabin altitude of 2,691 feet while flying at 41,000 feet.

Cabin altitude is a measurement of pressure inside an aircraft cabin translated to feet above sea level. The cabin altitude of most commercial flights is between 5,000 and 8,000 feet, while the range for business jets is generally between 3,000 and 6,000 feet.

Passengers will have roughly the same feeling of pressure, breathability, and comfort on a Global 8000 as they would standing atop the Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai, Bombardier officials said.

“We have focused heavily on elevating the passenger experience, imperative priorities for ultra-long-range travel,” Stephen McCullough, Bombardier’s senior vice president of engineering and product development, said in a news release. “With this industry benchmark for reduced cabin altitude, along with numerous other design features, we help passengers have the most comfortable inflight experiences in the industry.”

The Global 8000 has a top speed of Mach 0.95, making it the fastest civilian aircraft since Concorde. It has a range of 8,000 nm.

The jet is expected to enter service later this year, according to Bombardier.
