The fastest civilian aircraft in the world recently flexed its muscles with a series of record-breaking flights across the United States. The Cessna Citation X+, which received FAA certification in June, set four new speed records, include a coast-to-coast record from Seattle to Miami. The ultra-fast jet made the 2,375 nm trek in just 4 hours and 52 minutes, making for an average ground speed of 486.2 knots. The Citation X+ also set the speed record for the route from Wichita Mid-Continent Airport to Boeing Field.
Cessna reclaimed ownership of the world’s fastest civilian jet this summer when the Citation X+ stole the title from its previous holder, the Gulfstream G650. The X+, with a max speed of Mach 0.935, edged out the G650’s max of Mach 0.925.
