Eastern Kentucky University

Located in Richmond, Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky University offers three aviation bachelor’s degree programs as well as two minors that students can add to their degree plan. Eastern Kentucky was among the nation’s first FAA-approved 1,000 hour Restricted ATP institutions.

Program Highlights

Eastern Kentucky University flight training is conducted at Central Kentucky Regional Airport (KRGA), only 15 minutes from EKU’s campus. The simulators are located in the central portion of campus close to the library.

Each of the degree plans can be taken in addition to flight training.

EKU also hosts a number of flight simulators for students to use.

Value

The university’s base tuition is average for a university of its size. In-state students will pay roughly $9,500 per year. Out-of-state tuition is very similar, about $11,000.

Students progressing through all ratings from private pilot to certificated flight instructor (Instrument) can expect to spend $50,000-$60,000 in total fees during their four years.

Eastern Kentucky University offers many institution and aviation scholarships for students to take advantage of, including:

● AirMart Aviation Scholarship
● Patricia Eidson Memorial Scholarship
● Robert L. “Bob” Erekson Scholarship in Aviation

The university also accepts veteran benefits such as the GI Bill.

Fleet and Facilities

Eastern Kentucky University owns its own fleet of training aircraft, which includes:

Campus Life

Eastern Kentucky University offers on-campus housing with a dedicated floor to aviation students; the top floor of Clay Hall has been coined “The Flight Deck.”

Campus recreation at Eastern Kentucky University is exciting. A rock wall, gyms, and swimming is available to all students. Intramural sports are also available.

EKU has more than 200 clubs and organizations on campus, including:

● Cru
● EKU Green Crew

The university offers a rich Greek Life on campus for students interested in joining a fraternity or sorority.
