Yakima, Washington-based CubCrafters has pulled off what many would have thought would be an impossibility. The company has achieved certification for Garmin’s G3X glass panel, an EFIS designed for the experimental and LSA market, for installation in the Part 23-certified XCub, which was introduced last year with a basic avionics package. The G3X has been a popular option for the Carbon Cub, said CubCrafters’ president Randy Lervold.
Certified XCub Gets Garmin G3X Panel
Key Takeaways:
- CubCrafters achieved a significant aviation first by certifying Garmin's G3X glass panel, originally for experimental/LSA aircraft, as a full primary instrument cluster in its Part 23-certified XCub.
- This marks the FAA's initial approval of a full non-TSO'd primary instrument suite in a Part 23 aircraft via a type certificate revision, greatly enhancing the XCub's situational awareness and navigation capabilities (though not IFR certified).
- Available for 2018 XCub models starting in January, the new panel also includes ADS-B Out capability and an optional autopilot, with the G3X adding $19,990 to the base price.
