U.S. pilots frequently encounter weather-related accidents, often due to inadequate or outdated in-cockpit weather information.
Two primary in-cockpit weather services are available: the free, ground-based FIS-B (part of ADS-B) and the subscription-based, satellite-delivered XMWX (formerly WxWorx).
FIS-B offers core weather data and traffic information at no cost, while XMWX provides a broader, more detailed range of products, continuous updates, and Canadian coverage, making it suitable for more demanding flight operations.
