Key Takeaways:

  • The Tillamook Air Museum is set to reopen on October 29, less than a year after a severe windstorm ripped a massive hole in its historic 192-foot-tall World War II hangar roof.
  • Initially facing an uncertain future due to the significant cost and logistical challenges of repairing the damage, the museum's recovery became possible when the nonprofit Vintage Aviation Museum (VAM) acquired it in August.
  • With VAM's leadership and volunteer support, repairs are underway, and the museum will welcome visitors safely as the damaged roof section is fenced off from the main exhibits.

Less than a year after a fierce windstorm ripped a colossal 180-by-30-foot hole through its historic roof, Oregon’s Tillamook Air Museum is set to stage a triumphant comeback, reopening its doors to the public at 10 a.m. PDT on October 29.

The weather damage wrought on December 18, 2025, was both severe and hard to reach as the World War II wooden hangar is 192 feet tall, and the hole was at the apex of the roof.
