Key Takeaways:

  • The guiding principle "Just tell the story" advocates for communicating complex information with unvarnished facts, full context, and honesty, without hiding uncomfortable truths.
  • This commitment to clarity, discipline, and honesty is essential for aviation media, which serves a deeply informed audience that demands accurate and straightforward reporting.
  • *FLYING* and Firecrown Media adhere to this standard, aiming to respectfully cover aviation's extraordinary elements and critical issues, ensuring content is accessible, fair, and never watered down.

Years ago, at a former airline job, I worked with a senior leader who had a simple phrase for moments when we had to share complicated information with executives, union leaders, or other stakeholders: “Just tell the story.”

It was not an invitation to embellish. It was the opposite. It meant start with the facts. Explain what happened. Give the full context. Do not hide from the uncomfortable parts. Do not bury the lede. Do not assume the audience cannot handle the truth.
