At 1640 Central time, the airplane sustained substantial damage during a forced landing to a field after a loss of engine power while on approach. The solo commercial pilot was not injured. Visual conditions prevailed.

When the airplane was approximately five miles from the airport, the pilot applied full carburetor heat and the engine “almost died.” The pilot immediately turned off the carburetor heat and the engine began to run rough. Engine rpm continued to deteriorate and the pilot made a forced landing to a recently plowed cotton field and subsequently flipped over.
