A jet piloted by the Bangladesh Air Force crashed into a university in the country’s capital of Dhaka on Monday.

The Chinese-made Chengdu J-7 fighter jet, also known as the F-7, crashed at Milestone School and College campus in northern Dhaka. At least 19 people have died and over 100 more injured, according to a CNN report.

The crash, which occurred in the afternoon local time, sent 83 of those survivors to be treated in hospitals, a government spokesperson told CNN. They noted that most of those injured were students at the school.

Bangladesh chief adviser Muhammad Yunus posted a statement on X expressing “deep grief and sorrow over the tragic incident.”

“The loss suffered by the Air Force, the students, parents, teachers, and staff of Milestone School and College, as well as others affected by this accident, is irreparable,” Yunus said. “This is a moment of profound pain for the nation. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured and direct all concerned authorities, including hospitals, to address the situation with the utmost priority.”

Yunus said that the government would investigate the cause of the accident and provide assistance to those impacted.
