Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.
Today’s Top Pick is a 2006 Lancair Columbia 400.
Development of the Lancair Columbia 400 during the early 2000s promised to combine the raw performance and advanced composite construction found in numerous experimental designs, with the reliability and security of FAA certification.

The 400 was attractive enough to earn Cessna’s affection long enough for the aviation giant to buy the design and begin producing it, eventually as the Cessna TTx.
While the TTx might remind a lot of people of the Cirrus SR22, it represents a different approach to the piston single market. The 400/TTx seeks to maximize performance and skips the airframe parachute that helped to build the SR’s popularity.
Even though many pilots attracted to the 400 and TTx do not necessarily want parachutes, the lack of that feature almost surely hurt this aircraft’s sales. Today, however, the 400, TTx and related designs, now discontinued, are regarded as good values among newer high-performance models.

This 2006 Lancair Columbia 400 has 2,400 hours on the airframe and 360 hours since factory remanufacture on its Continental TSIO-550-C.
Its IFR panel features Garmin G1000 avionics, including dual GIA 63 GPS/nav/coms, GCU 476 keypad controller, Garmin GDL 69A XM satellite weather and radio data link, active traffic, GTX 345R-W WAAS ADS-B In and Out transponder with weather and traffic, GMA 1347 digital audio panel, Garmin GFC 700 autopilot with flight director and four-way electric trim, terrain awareness, Garmin SafeTaxi, Jeppesen Chartview and Garmin Charts, backup airspeed, altimeter and electric attitude indicator, and electronic built-in carbon monoxide detector.
Pilots looking for a fast, efficient, composite piston single that offers an appealing alternative to the Cirrus SR22 should consider this 2006 Lancair Columbia 400, which is available for $375,000 on AircraftForSale.
