Every day, the team at Aircraft For Sale chooses an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, a good deal, or has other qualities we find interesting. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.
Today’s Top Pick is a 1989 Bellanca 17-30A Viking.
With just 1,335 hours on the airframe since it rolled out of the factory in 1989, this is one of the lowest-time, late-model Vikings in existence. It spent the majority of its life in the dry, preservative air of New Mexico, shielded from the corrosion and humidity that plague many legacy singles.
As one of the final 35 units ever manufactured, it benefits from the 17-30A refinements—most notably the redesigned cowling and fairings that grant it a 12-knot speed advantage over the earlier 300 models.
While many owners modernize a panel by cutting holes for new screens and leaving the rest of the metal scarred, the owners of this Viking took a more surgical approach. The entire instrument panel was stripped and refinished in a custom Anthracite coating, featuring original-format lettering. It is a professional, cohesive layout that houses an S-TEC 60-2 autopilot (with altitude hold and flight director) and a KCS 55-A HSI.
The attention to detail extends to the cabin, where the interior was finished in EL-60 leather and premium wool carpeting. Interestingly, the design follows a specific “factory-alternate” blueprint that Bellanca developed but never officially put into mass production, making this interior a one-of-a-kind tribute to the brand’s heritage.

Under the hood sits the Continental IO-520-K, a powerplant that turns the Viking into a 160-knot cross-country machine. With only 310 hours since that overhaul and a fresh three-blade McCauley prop, the aircraft is mechanically fresh. A significant upgrade to the exhaust system has also been installed, which removes the repetitive 50-hour AD inspection—a common pain point for Viking owners.
Offered with a fresh annual inspection through July 2026, this Bellanca Viking is a fantastic opportunity for the pilot who wants to stand out on the ramp while enjoying some of the finest handling characteristics in general aviation.
