Key Takeaways:

Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.

Today’s Top Pick is a 1977 Beechcraft 24R Super/Sierra.

After decades of selling the luxurious, high-performance Bonanza, Beechcraft designed a line of basic entry-level models meant to compete with Cessna’s 172 and Piper’s PA-28 series. The models ranged from the basic, fixed-gear Musketeer to the more powerful, complex, retractable Sierra.

The Beechcraft models trailed their Cessna and Piper competition to market—a disadvantage that resulted in lower sales. Still, the Sierra and its siblings have features that make them especially appealing.

Like other Beechcraft models, the Sierra is known for a comfortable cabin and high quality construction. Indeed, the Sierra’s cabin is wider than the Bonanza’s and comes with doors on both sides for the pilot and front-seat passenger, where many low-wing models have a less-convenient single cabin door.

The Sierra has so much interior space that it could be ordered with a third-row bench seat. While more of a “four-plus-two” than a true six-seater, the Sierra offers extra flexibility in loading that pilots appreciate.

This aircraft for sale has an engine with low time since overhaul, a newer propeller, and a number of panel upgrades that make it well suited for today’s airspace. It offers the prospective new owner a solid platform for comfortable cross country family travel.

This 1977 Beechcraft Sierra has 2,920 hours on the airframe and 75 hours on its Lycoming IO-360-A1B6 engine since it was overhauled by Western Skyways in 2022. The aircraft’s Hartzell propeller has accrued 370 hours since new.

The panel includes a Garmin GNC 255 nav/com, MAC 1700 nav/com, Garmin GPS 175, Garmin Aera 795 GPS, King KMA 20 audio panel, Sigtronics intercom, S-Tec 50 autopilot with GPS/NAV mode, Stratus ESG transponder with ADS-B Out, Garmin GDL 39 3D with AHARS and ADS-B In, EDM 700 engine monitor, and GT-50 flight data system.

Pilots looking for a roomy, economical family aircraft with a low-time engine and avionics upgrades should consider this 1977 Beechcraft 24R Sierra, which is available for $114,500 at AircraftForSale.
