The pilot was conducting a series of practice accuracy landings in preparation for a checkride. He reported that he inadvertently forgot to extend the landing gear. He added that he did not remember hearing the landing gear warning horn just before touchdown because he had allowed himself to become fixated on maneuvering the aircraft to the precise landing point.

At 1055 Mountain time, the airplane experienced a loss of engine power during cruise flight and the pilot subsequently force-landed the airplane in a field. The private pilot sustained serious injuries and the airplane was substantially damaged. Visual conditions prevailed.

At about 1353 Eastern time, the airplane experienced a total loss of engine power during cruise flight. The pilot subsequently made an off-airport forced landing to a field and, during the landing roll, the airplane nosed over. The private pilot was not injured. The airplane sustained substantial damage to the vertical stabilizer and rudder. Visual conditions prevailed.

The airplane was destroyed at about 2040 Central time during a loss of control following a touch-and-go maneuver. The private pilot and one passenger were fatally injured; the two remaining passengers sustained serious injuries. Night visual conditions prevailed. An individual in a house approximately 1100 feet west of the accident site later reported hearing an airplanes engine either accelerate or decelerate, followed by a “thud” sound.

The pilot observed two deer crossing the runway from left to right just after lifting off during the night takeoff. One deer was in front of him and the other was to the left of his path. He pulled back on the yoke in an attempt to avoid the deer, at which time he heard a loud “bang.”

October 5, 2010, Columbia, S.C., Cessna 182P

The airplane was substantially damaged at about 1545 Eastern time during a forced landing after total loss of engine power. The commercial pilot sustained minor injuries and a passenger was not injured. Visual conditions prevailed. Shortly after takeoff, the pilot noted that the oil pressure gauge was below the green arc, and he elected to return. He then noted smoke in the cockpit, followed by a complete loss of engine power. The pilot performed a forced landing to a highway, about 1000 feet south-southeast of Runway 5.

At 1823 Central time, the airplane sustained substantial damage during a forced landing following a loss of engine power. The commercial pilot, who was the sole occupant at the time of the accident, was not injured. Visual conditions prevailed for the skydiving flight.
