The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association has announced the dates and locations for the regional AOPA Fly-Ins that will replace the organization's annual AOPA Aviation Summit convention. This year, the one-day events will be held on Saturdays at each of the following locations:
- April 26 - San Marcos Municipal Airport, Texas (HYI)
- May 31 – Indianapolis Regional Airport, Indiana (MQJ)
- July 12 – Plymouth Airport, Massachusetts (PYM)
- August 16 – Spokane Felts Field, Washington (SFF)
- September 20 - Chino Airport, California (CNO)
- November 8 – Malcolm McKinnon Airport, Georgia (SSI)
At a town hall meeting at AOPA's Airportfest, the outdoor aircraft display that ran concurrently with the AOPA Aviation Summit in Fort Worth, Texas, in October, AOPA executives said the Summit will be reinstated unless thousands of members attend the regional events.
In the meantime, the annual "AOPA Homecoming" fly-in at AOPA's Frederick, Maryland, headquarters will be reinstated. This year, the Homecoming will be held on October 4 when AOPA will also celebrate its 75th anniversary.
In addition to the exhibits, static aircraft displays, safety clinics and "Learn to Fly" area that were part of the Summit, the regional events and the Homecoming will include a pancake breakfast and pilot town hall meeting hosted by AOPA President Mark Baker. AOPA members will also be served a free lunch.
