A woman passenger successfully made a hard landing in a Cessna 150 at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport (KGVL) after the pilot became incapacitated during the flight.
The pilot later died, although it is unclear if his death was a result of the medical emergency, the hard landing, or a combination.
The passenger received guidance from multiple people on the radio to maneuver and land the plane, which resulted in a broken nosewheel and smoke but no fire, with the passenger reportedly uninjured.
