Key Takeaways:

  • Enhanced Vision Systems (EVS-100 sensor) are now available as a retrofit kit for existing Cirrus SR20 and SR22 aircraft.
  • The EVS-100 sensor combines long-wave infrared and natural light to provide a grayscale cockpit display of terrain, obstacles, and runways, usable day or night.
  • Developed by Forward Vision and One Sky Aviation, the retrofit kit is available under FAA STC #SA02329AK and costs $17,500.

Kits are now available for retrofitting enhanced vision technology on existing Cirrus SR20 and SR22 aircraft. Enhanced Vision Systems using this hardware have been available from the Cirrus factory since this summer. Now, Forward Vision and One Sky Aviation have teamed to develop FAA Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) #SA02329AK for installation of the EVS-100 sensor. Suggested cost of the STC kit is $17,500. The EVS-100 is a non-cryogenically cooled sensor that combines long-wave infrared (LWIF) sensing with natural light to provide a grayscale cockpit display of clouds, terrain and runway obstacles such as other aircraft, vehicles and wildlife. The system may be operated day or night (sunlight safe) and is designed to be upgradeable for future advances in technology.
