Several Aircraft Bust Florida TFR

Gemini Sparkle

Key Takeaways:

Florida’s east coast is prime flying country, especially this time of year. But apparently several pilots were not checking for temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) recently. The FAA is investigating multiple breaches of a Presidential TFR over the Sunshine State while President Obama was vacationing over the holiday weekend.

Aircraft that busted the restricted airspace include a Lancair 320, a Robinson R44 helicopter and a Cessna 152, which was intercepted by F-16 fighters on Saturday morning and directed to land at Witham Field in Stuart, Florida.

It will take some time for the FAA to conclude its investigations into the incidents, but the breaches do not bode well for the pilots of the aircraft involved, who are almost certain to face suspensions of their certificates.
