Jason Blair, who has been acting as the executive director for the National Association of Flight Instructors since 2008, has resigned from his position. In his official resignation statement Blair hinted at the reason for his departure being the inability of NAFI to financially support his position. “I fully support the mission of NAFI and hope the association and its members can find a way to continue the growth of the association and eventually return to a point where the position of an executive director is financially sustainable,” Blair said.
While the departure seems sudden, it appears to be amicable. Blair, who is a flight instructor and a designated pilot examiner, told Flying he supports NAFI as an organization and will likely be involved in some capacity as a volunteering member. And the resignation appears to be respected by NAFI as well. The organization’s board chairman, Robert Meder, said “NAFI again wishes to thank Jason for his tireless service and dedication to both the association and to the aviation community as a whole. We look forward to working with him as a contributor in the future and wish him well in his endeavors.“
