Key Takeaways:

  • The business aviation industry's primary challenge is coordinating the entire operational ecosystem, including aircraft, crews, maintenance, and infrastructure, as demand significantly outpaces supply.
  • Record demand, driven by growth in ultra-high net worth individuals (especially in North America) and shifts away from commercial aviation, is causing strain through limited new aircraft deliveries, aging fleets, and severe infrastructure constraints at key destinations.
  • To navigate these challenges, stakeholders must focus on increasing production, optimizing asset utilization, leveraging technology for efficiency and personalization, and enhancing the end-to-end customer experience, which is expected to drive further industry consolidation.

The “defining question” facing the business aviation industry is “no longer who can provide an aircraft but who can secure and coordinate the capacity around it, from delivery slots, crews, hangars, and maintenance to a seamless passenger experience.”

That is according to McKinsey & Company, which earlier this week released its inaugural analysis of the state of the bizav industry. The consultancy predicted that industry leaders heading into 2027 will be those who respond the quickest to limited aircraft supply, growing infrastructure constraints, and the difficulty of scaling.
