Key Takeaways:

  • International Association of Machinists (IAM) members overwhelmingly rejected Boeing's latest contract offer, extending the six-week-long strike.
  • The rejection, despite significant pay increases, bonuses, and improved 401(k) benefits, primarily stemmed from Boeing's refusal to reimplement the IAM pension plan.
  • The ongoing strike has severely impacted Boeing, halting 737 production and contributing to $6.2 billion in third-quarter losses and workforce reductions.
  • Union leadership confirmed their commitment to continue the strike until workers' demands, particularly regarding restoring past concessions like the pension, are met, citing a robust strike fund.

A majority of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) members voted Wednesday to reject the latest contract offer from Boeing, continuing the six-week-long strike.

The new contract rejection means a continuation of the month-long strike by union members of IAM Districts 751 and W24 located respectively in Seattle and Gladstone, Oregon. Sixty-four percent of members voted against the contract, according to results released by IAM on social media.
