What Is a Student Pilot Certificate?

A student pilot certificate is a document issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as certified proof that you have met the eligibility requirements and passed all testing to become a student pilot, allowing you to fly with a certified flight instructor (CFI) as you work to earn your private pilot’s license. 

What Does a Student Pilot do?

A student pilot spends time studying books on general aviation, aircraft systems, and safety regulations. They also spend time logging flight hours with a certified flight instructor as they prepare for their first solo and solo cross country flights on their way to earning their recreational or private pilot’s license. 

What Are the Eligibility Requirements for a Student Pilot Certificate?

5 Steps to Get a Student Pilot Certificate

The Integrated Airman Certification Rating Application (IACRA) allows you to set up a personal account on their (FAA) website. Registration is required to file an application for your student pilot certificate, so you will need to visit their website and set up your account. 

Step 3: Fill Out Student Pilot Certificate Application

After registering your account with IACRA, you will follow the instructions as the site guides you through the application process for a student pilot certificate. 

Step 4: Obtain a Medical Certificate

A medical certificate must be obtained through the Aviation Medical Examiners (AME) office by meeting all requirements. You will search for FAA Medical Examiners in your area and schedule an appointment. Prior to your visit, you must complete an FAA application form . You will then undergo a basic physical through your FAA-approved AME office. 

Step 4: Start Your Flight Training
