Key Takeaways:

  • Garmin has added the EAA AirVenture's FISK arrival procedure to its navigation database, simplifying the trip for thousands of pilots flying into Oshkosh.
  • The 2507 database release enables precise navigation along the FISK arrival, including previously unavailable VFR waypoints and transitions, on Garmin avionics and apps.
  • This integration aims to reduce pilot workload and aid in adherence to the lengthy annual OSH NOTAM during the busy AirVenture event.

If you are one of the thousands of pilots who plans to fly their own airplane into EAA AirVenture from July 21-27, Garmin may have just made the trip easier by adding the FISK arrival to the Garmin Navigation Database.

“All FISK arrival transitions and runways are selectable on Garmin avionics, Garmin Pilot, and SmartCharts when updated to the newest 2507 database release, allowing for precise navigation along the FISK arrival to Oshkosh [Wisconsin] this year,” Garmin said in a statement.

The EAA publishes a multipage NOTAM annually to facilitate operations during Oshkosh. This year it is 32 pages long, and pilots are strongly encouraged to study it before they start on the annual migration to AirVenture as part of their preflight planning.

Known as the “OSH NOTAM,”  it is updated every year, and adjustments are made to facilitate safer and more efficient operations.

Having the FISK arrival on a Garmin device can help lessen the workload, as this year it includes the details of the VFR waypoints as part of the arrival that have not been included in the navigational database before, such as “flying the shoreline of Puckaway Lake” and “flying between Fisk Avenue and the Microwave Tower” when those transitions are selected.
