Florida Flyers Flight Academy in St. Augustine has taken delivery of the first of two of 10 Tecnam P-Mentors.
According to school officials, the aircraft represent the beginning of what has been described as a “significant fleet modernization program.”
Tecnam notes the P-Mentor is popular with flight schools because it allows learners to go from zero flight experience up through commercial certificate in one aircraft model. The P-Mentor features a glass cockpit that qualifies as a technically advanced aircraft (TAA), making it usable for the pursuit of the commercial pilot certificate as well as private pilot and instrument rating.

Florida Flyers Flight Academy (FFFA) said the ability to use a single airframe for this primary training results in a smoother learning curve as student pilots can focus on honing their skills rather than trying to find their way around a new cockpit each time they add to a certificate or rating.
“Adding the Tecnam P-Mentor series reflects our investment in the future of aviation training and reinforces our position as one of the most advanced flight academies in the United States,” said Rainer Hueckels-Loeffeck, CEO of Florida Flyers Flight Academy, in a news release. “This marks our continued commitment to providing students with advanced, safe, and efficient training equipment that meets the highest global standards. We don’t just train pilots. We develop aviation professionals, offering guidance, structure, and real-world knowledge to help each student reach their goals with precision and support.”

FFFA was established in 2007, operating as both a Part 61 and Part 141 program. The school is FAA authorized for self-examining authority, allowing for in-house check rides for learners in the Part 141 private pilot and instrument rating programs. This can expedite training because the applicant doesn’t have to wait weeks or months for a Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) to be available for the check ride.
School officials noted the strict adherence to the Part 141 syllabus allows learners to complete their training faster and at a lower cost than other academy-style schools that offer pipeline programs to airlines.
“We are delighted to have Florida Flyers Flight Academy choose Tecnam for their fleet expansion,” said Walter Da Costa, Tecnam’s chief sales officer. “We are proud to support Florida Flyers in training the next generation of pilots on aircraft that are not only fun to fly but also environmentally friendly and cost-effective.”
