Boeing announced Monday that it has sold off parts of its digital aviation solutions business.

Assets including Jeppesen, ForeFlight, AerData, and OzRunways were transferred to Chicago-based software investment firm Thoma Bravo for $10.5 billion in cash. The transaction will strengthen Boeing’s capital structure, company officials said, while also allowing the manufacturing giant to “focus on core business,” including the retained parts of its digital services portfolio.

Jeppesen, ForeFlight, and OzRunways sell flight planning and navigation tools, while AerData develops software products for lease management, engine fleet planning, and records management.

Boeing said it will hold on to some digital assets centered on aircraft- and fleet-specific data that help support maintenance, diagnostics, and repair services for its customers.

Boeing first announced the deal with Thoma Bravo in April. At the time, president and CEO Kelly Ortberg said the sale would help bolster the company’s “investment-grade credit rating.”

About 3,900 employees around the world work in Boeing’s digital aviation solutions organization.
