Key Takeaways:

  • The Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA) reported a significant increase in business and general aviation avionics sales for Q3 2019, up nearly 15% from Q3 2018 and 14.3% year-to-date, totaling over $2.2 billion.
  • This marks 11 consecutive quarters of year-over-year growth, with the retrofit market accounting for over 52% of year-to-date sales and North America contributing nearly 75% of total sales.
  • The Federal Aviation Administration's ADS-B Out mandate, with its January 1, 2020 deadline, has been a primary driver for the recent surge in sales, particularly for retrofit avionics.
  • The industry is now observing whether this upward trend in avionics sales will continue after the ADS-B compliance period, as the majority of the North American fleet has been equipped.
