Jan. 5, Miami, Fla. / Boeing 757

At about 16:25 eastern time, a Boeing 757-28A operating as Avianca Airlines Flight 007 ingested one or more turkey buzzards during takeoff from Miami International Airports runway 27L. No humans were injured and no emergency evacuation was ordered following a precautionary landing to the same runway. The flight had just become airborne when it encountered a flock of at least 20 circling turkey buzzards. At about 13:30 mountain time, a Mooney M20C taxied into a motor vehicle traffic sign at Tucson International Airport. The pilot was not injured. After the pilot landed he inadvertently taxied onto a 20-foot-wide road designed for cars and struck a road sign….

August 07, Odenton, Md. / Piper Cherokee 140

At 10:00 eastern time, a Piper PA-28-140 was damaged during an aborted takeoff from Tipton Airport. The pilot was not injured. The pilot told investigators he was having problems with his airspeed indicator and asked a mechanic to inspect the pitot/static system. The mechanic inspected the system and the pilot planned to perform high speed taxis to test the system. The pilot reported the pre-flight runup was normal. The pilot made one pass down the runway without seeing an acceptable airspeed indication. March 24, Dixon, Ky. / Cessna Skylane

At about 14:40 central time, a Cessna 182Q crashed in Dixon, killing the pilot. The accident site was located on the pilots brother-in-laws property. The pilots brother-in-law told investigators he heard the airplane buzz the house. It sounded very low at the time. He said the engine was producing power continuously. Investigation of the scene showed the airplane hit near the top of one of two 75-foot-tall trees on a hill about 500 feet from the wreckage….

July 20, Garrettsville, Ohio / Cessna Stationair

At about 13:30 eastern time, a Cessna 206G overran the runway at a private airstrip in Garrettsville and struck a house. The pilot and passenger suffered minor injuries. The pilot said he purchased fuel at a nearby airport and returned to his private airstrip. During the landing, he overflew 2,000 feet of grass runway and touched down on 700 feet of concrete runway. The concrete was contaminated by buckshot from a nearby skeet shooting range and the airplane could not stop. The pilot was landing to the west, but winds were reported at a nearby airport as from 130 at 11 knots….

April 13, Hagerstown, Md. / Piper Seneca

At about 14:30 eastern time, a Piper PA-34-200 crashed while landing at Washington County Regional Airport. The pilot was not injured. The pilot initially had flown an ILS at Martinsburg, W.Va., but encountered turbulence and wind gusts he thought exceeded the airplanes limits. He did not land and proceeded to Hagerstown, where he flew the ILS into runway 27. Winds at the time were 30 degrees off the runway at 18 knots. As he neared the flare the wind subsided. Jan. 6, Spanish Fork, Utah / Cessna 152

At approximately 19:00 mountain time a Cessna 152 crashed into a frozen lake near Spanish Fork. The pilot was seriously injured and the passenger, a prospective purchaser of the airplane, suffered minor injuries. The pilot told investigators the flight was a demo flight for the pilot-rated passenger, who was interested in purchasing the airplane. The two estimated visibility at five miles, but shortly after takeoff, while climbing through 300 feet, the airplane entered a cloud or fog. The owner said the prospective buyer then grabbed the yoke because he thought the airplane was turning. The airplane hit the lake, skidded and fell through the ice. At 07:19 mountain time, a Socata TBM 700 crashed right after takeoff from Centennial Airport. The pilot was killed. Radar data showed the airplane taking off from runway 17L. As the pilot was handed off to Denver Departure, the airplane was climbing in a left turn, then descending as the turn continued. Restricted visibility precluded tower personnel from observing the departure….

August 08, Rock Springs, Wyo. / Piper Aerostar

At approximately 13:30 mountain time, a Piper PA-60-602P crashed while landing after aborting its flight. The pilot was not injured. The pilot had just taken off from Rock Springs and was climbing out on the downwind leg and getting his IFR clearance when he heard a loud explosion from the vicinity of the right wing. He returned and landed on runway 9. As soon as the airplane touched down, it began veering left and right and finally departed the right side of the runway, collapsing the landing gear. July 21, Bamberg, S.C. / Beech Bonanza

At about 09:15 eastern time, a Beech F35 crashed and burned shortly after takeoff from Bamberg County Airport, killing the pilot. The airplane had been delivered to a maintenance facility at the airport for an annual inspection on June 12. The work was completed on July 12 and the pilot came to pick up the airplane on July 21. He paid his bill and then started the airplane, taxied to the end of the runway and took off, all within what witnesses called two minutes. When the airplane climbed to about 100 feet agl the engine began to sputter. The airplane banked almost 90 degrees to the left and the airplane crashed nose-down….
