February 06, Platter, Okla. / Cessna 152 and Cessna 172

At approximately 17:45 central time, a Cessna 152 and a Cessna 172P collided in flight near Platter. The flight instructor and student in the 152 were killed. The 172 landed without further incident and the two occupants were uninjured. The pilot of the 172 said he was in cruise flight at 3,500 feet when he felt a thud near the rear of the airplane. He then felt air coming into the cabin from the left door and recognized that the airplane required excessive right rudder to maintain directional control. Jan. 15, San Luis Obispo, Calif. / Cessna Turbo Centurion and Cessna 310

At 07:30 Pacific time, a Cessna T210L and a Cessna 310 collided in the run-up area for runway 29 at San Luis Obispo Airport. No one was injured. The pilot of the 210 said the morning sun restricted his vision to the point where he could not see in front of the airplane and he never saw the Cessna 310 in the run-up area. The pilot of the Cessna 310 stated his airplane was stationary and he was looking inside performing prop governor checks and at the last second saw a white flash in the corner of his eye. The right wing of the Cessna T210L was severed approximately 6 feet inboard of the wingtip when it contacted the right propeller of the Cessna 310….

June 02, Elkton, Md. / Cubby Sport Trainer and Bellanca 7ECA

At about 17:35 eastern time, a homebuilt Cubby Sport Trainer collided with a Bellanca 7ECA on landing roll-out at Cecil County Airport/Raintree Airpark. The pilot of the Cubby and the two aboard the Bellanca were uninjured. The pilot of the Cubby said he flew a normal traffic pattern behind a Piper Lance to runway 31 and made a normal three-point landing within the first third of the runway. Suddenly the Bellanca appeared on his left side going the opposite direction and the two airplanes struck wings. May 12, San Diego, Calif. / Gulfstream G-IV and Bell 206B

At about 17:00 Pacific time, a Bell 206B and Gulfstream G-IV collided in a non-movement area of the San Diego International-Lindbergh Field. The pilot of the helicopter and his three passengers were uninjured and the eight occupants of the Gulfstream were uninjured. The helicopter was on the ground and the Gulfstream was taxiing past it with the assistance of line personnel. As the jet approached the helicopter, a wing walker signaled there was sufficient clearance to pass. But as the jet passed, the helicopter pilot started the engine and the rotor blades struck the jets right winglet. The rotors then struck the helicopters tailboom….

February 15, Long Beach, Calif. / Cessna 152 and Cessna Skyhawk

At about 15:40 Pacific time, a Cessna 152 and a Cessna 172N collided over the Pacific Ocean about six miles south of the Long Beach Municipal Airport. Both airplanes were being operated by the same flight school and both contained a student pilot and flight instructor. All four were killed. Witnesses said that, following the collision, both airplanes entered uncontrolled descents into the water….

October 12, Van Nuys, Calif. / Piper Cherokee 140 and Piper Malibu

At 18:28 Pacific time, a Piper PA-28-140 and a Piper PA-46-310P collided on runway 16R. No one was injured. The Malibu pilot was cleared to land and advised there would be traffic departing before his arrival. The controller then cleared the Cherokee to taxi into position and hold at intersection 13F and advised the pilot of a Malibu three and a half miles out. The Malibu pilot reported being on final and was again cleared to land. The Cherokee was still holding in position when the Malibu came up from behind….

October 20, Kissimmee, Fla. / North American Texan and Cessna Skyhawk

At 12:50 eastern time, a North American SNJ-6 collided on the ground with a Cessna 172R after landing at Kissimmee Municipal Airport. The Cessna landed on runway 6 and cleared the runway at taxiway Delta. The ground controller advised the Cessna pilot to hold there momentarily. Meanwhile, the Texan landed on runway 6 and was advised by the controller to follow the Cessna. The pilot of the Texan reported that the Cessna was in sight and turned off the runway onto taxiway Delta. The pilot of the Texan then lost sight of the Cessna, and the Texans propeller subsequently collided with the tail of the Cessna. The Texan sustained minor damage, and the Cessnas empennage was destroyed….

October 27, Giddings, Texas / Cessna 170 and Lake Amphibian

At 10:00 central time, a Cessna 170A struck a Lake LA-4 while landing at Giddings-Lee County Airport. No one was injured. The Cessna was landing and touched down 800 feet along the 3,999-foot runway and bounced several times. It drifted left of the centerline and the pilot advanced the throttle to go around when the Cessna struck the Lake and began to cartwheel. The Cessna sliced a wing off the Lake and then crashed into a fuel pump….

Nov. 10, Corning, N.Y. / Cessna 152 and Cessna 172

At 17:00 eastern time, a Cessna 152 struck a parked Cessna 172 during landing rollout at Corning-Painted Post Airport. Both aircraft sustained substantial damage. Neither occupant of the 152 was injured. The flight instructor said he landed on runway 31 and planned for a long rollout so the student could practice taxiing. During the rollout, the student pressed the left brake, and the airplane veered off the left side of the runway, striking the parked Cessna. The left wing of the Cessna 152 impacted the left strut of the Cessna 172. The Cessna 152 rotated to the left, and its propeller then sliced through the empennage of the Cessna 172 and came to a stop….
