The Boeing 787 Dreamliner completed its inaugural commercial flight with paying passengers for All Nippon Airways, traveling from Hong Kong to Tokyo.
Known as the world's first "plastic" airliner, the 787 is composed of 50% composite materials and boasts 20% greater fuel efficiency and 20% fewer carbon emissions than competitors.
This significant milestone occurred exactly 53 years after Boeing's first commercial airliner, the 707, made its initial passenger voyage.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner lifted off on Wednesday for the first time with paying passengers on board, marking a milestone many years in the making for the world’s first “plastic” airliner.
The jet, owned and operated by All Nippon Airways, carried 240 passengers from Hong Kong to Tokyo, a trip that some passengers paid as much as $30,000 for at auction.
