Pilots must request an SVFR clearance, which is granted on a traffic-permitting basis and prioritizes IFR flight operations.
SVFR clearances are available in Class B, C, D, and E surface areas, where ATC provides separation between SVFR and IFR flights within the airspace.
SVFR clearances typically do not specify altitude, as pilots must remain clear of clouds, but may include altitude restrictions for traffic safety above minimum safe altitudes.
