Indiana State University

Located in Terre Haute, Indiana, Indiana State University offers three aviation majors and two aviation minors. Graduates of the program are employed at major U.S. air carriers and cargo companies like American Airlines and United Airlines. Indiana State also has some alumni serving in several branches of the military.

Program Highlights

Indiana State University is an FAA-approved Part 141 pilot school and flight operations are conducted at the Terre Haute Regional Airport (KHUF), a 15-minute drive from main campus.

Indiana State University received a $500,000 commitment from FedEx Express as one of six institutions selected to participate in the corporation’s $2.5 million Purple Runway Aviation Scholarship program. This program is set to be extended over five years.

The school is also part of Region 8 of the National Intercollegiate Flying Association.

Value

Indiana State’s tuition is competitive for the size of school and the facilities it provides. For in-state students, base tuition is just under $5,000 a semester, and for out-of-state students, tuition will hover around $6,000 a semester. In-state waivers can be gained for out-of-state students.

On top of base tuition, flight students will have additional costs for flight courses. Over the course of four years, before financial aid or scholarships, flight costs will come in at about $70,000 for all necessary certificates to be a professional pilot.

As a PAFT student, a variety of scholarships ranging from $500 to $5,000 are available to full-time aviation technology students on a competitive basis.

Students who seek out and secure internships within their major can apply them as credits to their degree plan.

The university also accepts veteran’s benefits such as the GI Bill.

Graduates of Indiana State University’s PAFT major will be eligible for a R-ATP certificate once they have accumulated 1,000 hours of flight time.

Campus Life

Indiana State University is a large school. There are 12 housing options for students of all levels and a number of dining options on campus.

A high-end campus recreation center provides students with a place to work out, play sports, and study. Some cool features of the center include an indoor pool and a multi-activity sports court.

Indiana State has nearly 150 student organizations, including general interest clubs, academic clubs, honor societies, and social fraternities and sororities.

The university can offer students exposure to internships, restricted airline transport certificates, and a number of scholarships targeted at aviation students.
