Program Highlights

Hampton University is an FAA-approved Part 141 pilot school, and flight operations are conducted at Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport (KPHF) in partnership with Rick Aviation, approximately 15 minutes from campus.

Hampton University’s Aviation Department is approved by the FAA to administer written exams on campus. Hampton is accredited by Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI) and the school is part of Region 10 of the National Intercollegiate Flying Association.

Value

Hampton University’s tuition is a touch higher for the size of the school and the facilities it provides. Base tuition for all students will hover around $43,000.

On top of base tuition, flight students will have additional costs for flight courses. Over the course of four years, before financial aid or scholarships, flight costs will come in at about $75,000 for all necessary licenses to be a professional pilot.

Hampton accepts outside aviation scholarships to help mitigate the cost of tuition and flight, including:

● CGCS-Bernard Harris Scholarship Program
● Chuck Peacock Memorial Scholarship

It also accepts veteran’s benefits such as the GI Bill.

Fleet and Facilities

The fleet of aircraft at Rick Aviation, where Hampton flight students fly include:

● Cessna 172s
● Piper Cherokees
● Piper Seminoles

The airport campus also hosts a Redbird LD Advanced Aviation Training Device (AATD) for flight training on the ground.

Graduates from Hampton’s Part 141 flight training program may be eligible for a restricted ATP.

Campus Life

Twenty-four modern and historic residence halls make living on the Hampton University campus feel like home. There are also many on-campus dining options.

Hampton University currently hosts more than 55 student organizations, including Greek life. There’s something to peak anyone’s interest.
