Key Takeaways:

  • The Solar Impulse 2 (Si2) successfully completed its Pacific Ocean crossing from Honolulu to Mountain View, California, resuming its pioneering round-the-world solar-powered flight after being grounded since last August due to battery issues.
  • During this leg, pilot Bertrand Piccard unofficially broke several solar-powered flight records for distance, speed, and altitude, with new, more advanced batteries performing perfectly.
  • Despite significant technological challenges, the Solar Impulse project is now over halfway complete and will continue its journey across the United States with flexible flight paths determined by optimal weather conditions.
