Companies have tried for decades to create a viable head up display for the lighter end of general aviation. But until now, nobody has successfully produced a unit that fits the needs of piston and light turbine operators. MyGoFlight first announced its HUD four years ago, and is currently flight-testing the unit in an Avidyne-equipped Cirrus.
MyGoFlight HUD Nears Certification
Key Takeaways:
- MyGoFlight has developed the Skydisplay HUD-LCD180, a head-up display tailored for general aviation to provide certified flight data previously unavailable at this segment.
- The HUD extracts critical information like airspeed and attitude directly from the aircraft's certified panel, ensuring accuracy and aiming to improve flight safety by keeping pilots' eyes outside during flight.
- Expected to cost around $25,000 plus installation, it offers a significantly more affordable alternative to traditional certified HUDs, which typically cost over $100,000.
- Supplemental Type Certification (STC) for the unit is anticipated later this year, with initial compatibility for specific Avidyne and Garmin systems, and plans for broader integration with other avionics.
