Key Takeaways:

  • NORAD scrambled F-16 fighter jets to intercept five general aviation aircraft that violated a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) in Houston during President Donald Trump's visit, safely escorting them out.
  • The FAA issues TFRs, alerted by Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), for presidential travel, creating a restricted airspace "bubble" around Air Force One.
  • NORAD emphasizes that pilots must thoroughly check and understand NOTAMs before flying, as TFR violations are a persistent issue with multiple recent incidents across various locations.
  • Violating TFRs can result in significant penalties, including warnings, civil fines, criminal charges, and suspension or revocation of pilot certification.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) scrambled F-16 fighter jets to intercept five “general aviation aircraft” that it said violated a temporary flight restriction (TFR) in Houston while President Donald Trump was in town.

NORAD said the fighters on Friday morning safely escorted the aircraft out of the restricted area. Trump visited Houston Thursday and Friday to attend a reception and award medals to NASA’s Artemis II astronauts, who earlier this year flew around the moon and traveled farther from Earth than any human.
