The FAA has granted a supplemental type certificate (STC) to Sagem Avionics for installing a modern glass avionics suite in legacy Twin Commander 690 twin-engine aircraft. The configuration includes as many as four 10-inch active matrix liquid crystal displays, or as few as two. The configuration calls for primary flight display, multifunction display with moving map, engine instrumentation, CAS advisory, a terrain/obstacle proximity warning system, and integrates with radars and traffic advisory systems. The Sagem configuration is also well suited to conforming with enhanced vision systems such as the L-3 IRIS camera-based unit, lightning detection equipment, weather radar and communication radios. According to Sagem, there are more than 600 Twin Commander 690s in the current fleet. The demonstrator version of the Sagem Twin Commander 690 was converted at Alternative Aviation in Waterford, Michigan, and was on display at the NBAA Convention and trade show earlier this month.
