The 2025 Air Race Classic was a four-day, all-woman air race involving 64 teams flying piston-powered aircraft approximately 2,426 miles from Fairhope, Alabama, to Spokane, Washington.
Tracing its legacy to the 1929 Women's Air Derby, the race emphasizes pilot skill, with winners determined by the team that beats their aircraft's unique handicap by the greatest margin.
Teams consist of at least two women pilots, ranging from professionals to students, and compete in either the Competition Class or Collegiate Class under VFR daytime conditions.
Team 41 "Skybound Scotts" secured first place in the Competition Class, while Team 22 "Frozen" from the University of North Dakota won the Intercollegiate Class.
The all-woman race traces its roots back to the 1929 Women’s Air Derby when a handful of notable aviatrixes of the time, including Amelia Earhart, Bobby Trout, Louise Thaden, and Pancho Barnes, took off from Clover Field in Santa Monica, California, heading for Cleveland. These women flew solo in single-engine aircraft.
