The 2025 Air Race Classic is an all-woman flight competition, tracing its heritage back to the 1929 Women's Air Derby.
This year, 64 teams of at least two women pilots flew 41 piston-powered aircraft over a 2,426-mile, nine-state route from Fairhope, Alabama, to Spokane, Washington, completed in four days.
Winning the race emphasizes skill over raw speed, with teams judged on how much they beat their aircraft's unique handicap.
Team 41 "Skybound Scotts" won the Competition Class, and Team 22 "Frozen" from the University of North Dakota secured first place in the Intercollegiate Class.
The all-woman race traces its roots back to the 1929 Women’s Air Derby when a handful of notable aviatrixes of the time, including Amelia Earhart, Bobby Trout, Louise Thaden, and Pancho Barnes, took off from Clover Field in Santa Monica, California, heading for Cleveland. These women flew solo in single-engine aircraft.
