Key Takeaways:

  • The third annual ARC Air Derby, organized by Air Race Classic Inc., is a coed air racing event, differentiating it from their traditional all-women race.
  • Teams must include at least one certificated female pilot or student pilot, though men may participate, with registration closing on September 26 for flights between September 29 and October 9.
  • The derby welcomes light aircraft under 12,500 pounds, requiring current inspection, registration, and liability insurance.

If air racing is on your aviation bucket list, you still have time to sign up for the third annual ARC Air Derby organized by Air Race Classic Inc., the same group that puts on the yearly all-women amateur cross-country air race. Unlike the all-women contest, the air derby is open to men as well.

“Either the pilot or copilot must still be a certificated female pilot or student pilot, but men may participate in either role or as an additional teammate,” ARC said.
