Key Takeaways:

  • Airbus successfully conducted the first test flight of an A380 with one engine running on 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
  • The three-hour flight utilized 27 metric tons of unblended SAF produced from used cooking oil and other waste fats.
  • This A380 test, following earlier trials on other aircraft, aims to further validate SAF's performance, with a second flight planned for takeoff and landing tests.
  • Airbus considers increasing SAF use crucial for the industry's net-zero carbon emissions goal by 2050 and aims for 100% SAF certification by the end of the decade.
