A scaled down version of the Fantasy of Flight museum in Polk City, Florida, has opened while work continues on a major expansion that owner Kermit Weeks has named “Act III.”

“We want to allow the aircraft-loving public the opportunity to reconnect while we continue to create and design the next iteration, Act III, of the Fantasy of Flight attraction,” Weeks said.

The museum opened this weekend and the current hours of operation are Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. until April 26, and between June 19 through August 2 and November 20 through April 10, 2016. On the same days, Waldo Wright’s Flying Service will bring a Stearman to provide rides between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Reservations are recommended and there is a charge for the flights.

Inside and outside the museum, which is temporarily housed in the former maintenance hangar while work progresses at the former site, you can expect to see many historical airplanes, such as a North American P-51D Mustang and Consolidated B-24J Liberator. However, during this transition period, there won’t be any restaurant, restoration tours, aircraft-of-the-day, immersion environments or flight demonstrations of the airplanes on display at the museums as there have been in the past.

The price of admission is $12 for adults, $10 for those 55 and over, and $8 for children ages 6 through 12. The museum recommends that you call before visiting as opening hours are subject to change.
