Private aviation company VistaJet announced Wednesday that it is the first business aviation operator in the world to achieve certification for baseline Evidence-Based Training (EBT) for its flight crews.
EBT is a data-driven training methodology developed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), endorsed by the U.N.’s International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and recognized by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). It relies on adaptive instruction and is meant to prioritize critical thinking, resilience, and real-world performance over rote practice.
VistaJet said it began integrating the concept into its training program in 2018.
“We were the first to implement EBT in business aviation—years ahead of the industry—and we’ve set the blueprint others now look up to,” said VistaJet chief operations officer Nick van der Meer. “Achieving this certification is more than a regulatory milestone. It’s proof of Vista’s relentless commitment to protecting our clients and crew. Safety is a responsibility we take personally, every single day.”
Company officials said EBT principles have informed their approach to training standardization and data gathering, and guided their in-house team of flight simulator instructors and examiners.
VistaJet’s instructors and check pilots conduct initial and recurrent training programs for flight crews across the operator’s fleet, including Bombardier, Gulfstream, and Cessna business jets.
VistaJet has its corporate headquarters in Malta and operates over 270 aircraft. It allows members to book charter flights to destinations around the world.
