Key Takeaways:

  • uAvionix's new AV-Link enables ADS-B traffic viewing on its AV-30 digital EFIS displays, initially for experimental aircraft, with certified aircraft support expected later this year.
  • AV-Link wirelessly connects the AV-30 to various portable ADS-B receivers, such as ForeFlight Sentry or GDL90 Wi-Fi protocol devices.
  • Beyond traffic display, AV-Link also facilitates wireless updates for the AV-30 and opens the display to future functionality and connectivity with other wireless avionics.

With the just-announced addition of uAvionix’s new AV-Link to its AV-30 14-plus-feature digital EFIS, owners of experimental category aircraft will be able to view ADS-B traffic in the cockpit. The company says the current AV-Link version for experimental aircraft is just the first step toward bringing ADS-B traffic to all AV-30 displays for certified aircraft, expected to be available later this year.

In a news release, uAvionix said, “With AV-Link, pilots have the ability to wirelessly connect the AV-30 to a supported ADS-B receiver, such as ForeFlight Sentry or Sentry Mini, echoUAT, skyEcho, skySensor or any standard GDL90 Wi-Fi-protocol portable ADS-B receiver with GPS. Additionally, AV-Link opens AV-30 to future functionality and connectivity with other wireless-enabled avionics in the cockpit.” The traffic display becomes an option on the AV-30 that can be toggled on and off from the instrument panel.

The company also spoke to AV-Link’s other useful capabilities, such as the elimination of the previously required direct serial connections behind the AV-30 itself to handle updates. AV-Link can handle those efforts wirelessly. The AV-Link is easy to add to existing AV-30 units through the 15-pin DB harness wired to the aircraft’s systems.
