Fans of the Top Gun franchise will get at least one more chance to seek Maverick in action.

Paramount confirmed Thursday that another Top Gun sequel is in development, with Tom Cruise set to return as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.

Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the 1986 Top Gun and 2022 Top Gun: Maverick, will also return to the franchise, Paramount said, but so far no director has been named.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a follow-up to the massively successful Maverick has been in the works for several years, but the studio did not make an official announcement green-lighting the project until this week.

Maverick, which saw Cruise reprise his role from the original alongside a mainly younger cast, earned $1.5 billion globally and helped revive movie-going after the COVID-19 pandemic.
