Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.

Today’s Top Pick is a 2012 Kitfox Series 5.

The Kitfox Series 5 has built a loyal following among backcountry pilots and recreational aviators for its compact footprint, nimble handling, and impressive short takeoff and landing (STOL) performance. This 2012 example might just be one of the most extensively upgraded and carefully maintained Kitfoxes on the market today.

Originally built in Colorado and now based in Bozeman, Montana, this airplane has been owned by meticulous engineers who left no component untouched in their pursuit of reliability, safety, and flight joy. With just 495 hours on the airframe and 436 since overhaul on its 118 hp Lycoming O-235 engine (now paired with Lightspeed electronic ignition), this Kitfox is fresh, proven, and ready to fly.

Upgrades include dual-piston Beringer brakes with adjustable manifold, 29-inch Goodyear bushwheels, Airframes Alaska T3 tailwheel suspension, vortex generators, and reinforced tailwheel bracket, ensuring it’s ready for rugged strips. A recent addition of bubble doors and a glass ceiling provides unbeatable visibility, making this a dream machine for scenic flights or backcountry excursions.

Avionics are equally impressive: a Garmin G5, AV-20, Garmin GTR200B radio, GMA340 audio panel with Bluetooth, and ADS-B Out via TailBeaconX. You’ll also find an iPad mini dash mount and a Stratus 2 for ADS-B In, rounding out a well-equipped VFR panel.

Inside, you’ll find alcantara seats with Kitfox embroidery, carbon fiber seat pans, and rear headset jacks for clean cable routing. Small touches like these attest to a level of thoughtfulness rarely found in comparable experimental builds.

The aircraft did experience a minor prop strike in 2022. Out of caution, the propeller was replaced, and an A&P completed a full teardown and compliance with all relevant ADs documented and signed off.

Listed for $139,500, this 2012 Kitfox Series 5 is one of the cleanest and best equipped bush planes of its kind. For a pilot who values visibility, versatility, and careful craftsmanship, this airplane is hard to beat.
