The Experimental/exhibition category aircraft was destroyed at 1628 Pacific time after colliding with terrain while maneuvering at an air show. The Commercial pilot was fatally injured. Visual conditions prevailed. The airplane had taken off at about 1627. Witnesses reported the airplane entering a right downwind for Runway 30. Shortly after entering the downwind, at approximately midfield, the airplane began to lose altitude, eventually descending below a tree line east of the airport. July 22, Pittston, Pa. / Hawker Hunter

At 0859 eastern time, an unregistered Hawker Hunter T Mk 7A crashed shortly after takeoff from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, killing the pilot. The airplane was operated by Northern Lights Aerobatic Team, which had just purchased the airplane and was ferrying it to Canada. The airplane was based at Wilkes-Barre after it was imported from the United Kingdom and it was sold in June 2002 to a company in Florida. When a pilot tried to deliver the airplane to the buyer, he experienced mechanical difficulties and returned to Wilkes-Barre. The airplane sat in unpreserved storage for a year at Wilkes-Barre. At 15:00 PST, an experimental Hawker Siddeley Hunter F MK 4 lost engine power on approach to Chino, Calif. The airplane landed in a field -mile short of the airport after the pilot ejected. The pilot was seriously injured. The airplane had been issued a ferry permit to fly from Mojave, Calif., to Tulsa, Okla., for maintenance work. The owner told investigators the pilot was going to make a short stop in Chino for some maintenance work and then fly to Tulsa for further maintenance….

Dec. 20, Jackson, Wyo. / Hawker Siddeley HA-125

At approximately 01:30 mountain time, a Hawker Siddeley-125-700 was damaged when it missed the runway while landing at Jackson Hole Airport. No one was injured during the Part 135 flight. The captain said they could see runway 18 from five nautical miles away. He said he flew an ILS approach and landed the airplane on the runway. An investigation revealed the airplane first hit the ground approximately 160 feet left of the runway and 3,500 feet down the 6,300-foot runway. The airplane settled into approximately 2 to 3 feet of snow, and left a track in the snow for approximately 600 feet. The right wing separated from the airplane and the left wing was bent and badly damaged….

March 09, Stratford, Conn. / Hawker Siddeley HS-125

About 14:01 eastern time, a Hawker Siddeley HS-125-3A overran the runway while landing at Sikorsky Memorial Airport. The two pilots were not injured. The copilot, who was flying, said she flew the ILS approach and landed, but did not have any braking effectiveness as the airplane touched down on the runway. With 1,000 feet remaining, the copilot selected the emergency brakes. With no results, the copilot selected the parking brake. The airplane continued off the departure end of the runway and through a fence.
