The airplane was substantially damaged when it collided with trees and terrain during a forced landing at about 1118 Eastern time after a reported loss of engine power. The private pilot was fatally injured. Visual conditions prevailed. At 1111, the pilot declared an emergency and advised he had “lost” the engine. The controller provided vectors to a nearby airport but the pilot advised he was unable to clear a ridgeline in his path. At 1117, radar and voice communication with the airplane was lost.

June 23, 2011, Valparaiso, Fla., Beech C24R Sierra

The airplane collided with the parking ramp while attempting to land at 0444 Central time. Night visual conditions prevailed. The flight instructor and private pilot receiving instruction were killed. The airplane was destroyed by a post-crash fire. At 04:34:46, the flight was cleared for the option to land on Runway 1. At 04:37:44, the flight requested a right turn to 2000 feet and a “high key” simulated engine failure approach to Runway 1. At 04:44:05, the pilot stated he was doing another 360-degree turn for Runway 1. No further communications were received.

October 8, 2010, Blue Diamond, Nev., Beech A35

The airplane experienced a loss of engine power and collided with terrain at about 1145 Pacific time during a forced landing. The private pilot and passenger sustained serious injuries; the airplane sustained substantial damage to the firewall and fuselage. The cross-country flight departed Palm Springs, Calif., about 1000, with a planned destination of North Las Vegas, Nev. Visual conditions prevailed.

The airplane sustained a bird strike at about 0750 Mountain time while on approach to land. The commercial pilot sustained minor injuries; the airplane sustained damage to the left front pilot windshield. Visual conditions prevailed for the Part 135 all-cargo flight. While in a descent at an altitude of 11,000 feet msl, a bird impacted the upper part of the captains windshield, breaking a football-size hole in it.

At 1617 Pacific time, the airplane impacted a concrete wall and was destroyed by a post-crash fire. The solo pilot was killed. Visual conditions prevailed. According to local law enforcement, the airplane touched down on railroad tracks, bounced a couple of times and came to rest about 500 yards from the initial point of impact.

At 1750 Central time, the airplane sustained substantial damage during a forced landing shortly after takeoff. The solo pilot was not injured. Visual conditions prevailed. During initial climb, the pilot experienced an abnormality in the flight controls and executed a downwind landing to a taxiway. The airplane veered off the taxiway and impacted terrain.

August 18, 2007, Clearwater, Fla., Beech B36TC

The airplane crashed at about 1035 Eastern time while attempting a takeoff. Visual conditions prevailed; instrument flight plan had been filed. The private pilot received serious injuries, and two passengers received minor injuries. The pilot later said the takeoff roll had been uneventful; however, after rotating and at about 50 feet agl, the flight controls became mushy, and he did not have any elevator or rudder control.
