At about 1242 Central time, the airplane experienced a loss of directional control during the initial takeoff and crashed in an open field. Visual conditions prevailed. The airplane sustained substantial damage due to impact and a post-crash fire. The solo airline transport pilot was fatally injured. One witness reported the accident airplane became airborne just before the intersection of the ramp and runway.

At about 0700 Central time, a Smith Aerostar 601P piloted by an airline transport pilot, sustained substantial damage during a forced landing following a loss of engine power on takeoff. Visual conditions prevailed. There were no injuries reported to the pilot or three passengers.

December 2, 2006 in West Dover, VT / Ted Smith Aerostar 601P

At about 1245 Eastern time, the aircraft was destroyed when it impacted terrain while maneuvering. The solo Commercial pilot was fatally injured. Visual conditions prevailed. A witness who lived about seven miles from a nearby airport observed the accident airplane on final approach. The witness stated the landing gear was extended and he did not notice anything unusual.
