In our FBO Spotlight series, we're highlighting FBOs around the country that have received rave reviews from our readers. This latest Spotlight is brought to you by Mike "Gunner" Thompson, who recently flew into Page Field Airport in Fort Myers, Florida, in a Piper Archer II. Here's what he had to say about one of the airport's FBOs, Base Operations:
"I was visiting Ft. Myers to visit a high school friend I hadn't seen in 51 years. I emailed the FBO explaining I hadn't been there in several years and had never driven there. I asked for directions to give my friend. I got the greatest email back — complete driving directions, phone numbers and a name for my friend to call if he had any problem at all finding the FBO. On my arrival, both the line personnel and front desk personnel were courteous, friendly and most helpful. I wanted to take my friend flying to give him an aerial view of Ft. Myers and asked the front desk about it — there is fairly complex airspace there with the Class D KFMY and the Class C SW Florida Regional Airport. She called both a local pilot and then the tower chief to help me figure out the best route request and execution for this flight. Their fuel prices are reasonable for this day and time, and the service is fast and efficient. It should be noted that both KMFY and this FBO are owned and operated by the Lee County Port Authority. They built a beautiful facility with a vague WWII theme (static AT-6 on display outside in a nice shelter and a P-51 hanging in the lobby)."
