Key Takeaways:

  • Textron Aviation has ended production of its Cessna Citation Mustang, a popular entry-level light business jet, with the final aircraft rolling off the assembly line.
  • The decision to discontinue the Mustang, which sold 472 units since its 2006 introduction, stems from declining demand, primarily due to the market's shift towards its successor, the Citation M2.
  • Textron Aviation plans to continue supporting existing Mustangs while focusing on the Citation M2 as its entry-level jet and other aircraft programs, with no job cuts anticipated in Kansas.

Earlier this year, Textron Aviation CEO Scott Donnelly told investors that the company would be scaling back on the production of certain legacy aircraft due to a lack of demand. Last week, the scaling down began with the announcement that the final Cessna Citation Mustang had rolled off the assembly line in Wichita, Kansas, and with its delivery in coming weeks the Mustang’s era would come to an end.
