Bombardier’s new Global 8000 business jet just got a bit faster.
The manufacturer announced Monday that the Global 8000’s top speed has been adjusted up from Mach 0.94 to Mach 0.95, the highest speed in civil aviation.
“This accomplishment for Bombardier is reflective of the remarkable expertise of every employee that has worked on the development of this industry-leading business jet,” said Bombardier president and CEO Éric Martel in a news release. “With our Bombardier Global 8000, our customers will now be able to reach their destinations even faster, arriving refreshed and ready to carry out their desired missions.”
The Global 8000 is expected to be the fastest civilian aircraft since Concorde. It has a range of 8,000 nm, and its cabin features four living spaces and a separate crew rest area. Its launch customer is U.S.-based NetJets, which plans to operate a fleet of 24 Global 8000s.
Company officials said the aircraft is still on track for certification this year. This will allow for the start of deliveries and the jet’s entry into service.
