Department of Defense leadership repositioned a carrier strike group and bolstered forces amid what Pentagon officials maintain is a rising threat against U.S. forces in the region.

Sunday’s drill was the first joint aerial exercise of its kind and occurred as a response to nuclear threats by North Korea.

The RAF will evaluate ground testing of satellite links and taxi procedures, as well as takeoff and landing procedures.

Its LMXT strategic aerial refueling tanker had been expected to take on Boeing’s KC-46 as a contender for an interim update under the KC-135 fleet recapitalization program.

The shipment marks the first time the aircraft will operate outside of Brazil, according to manufacturer Embraer.

China is working to rapidly modernize and expand its nuclear forces in the next decade at a pace that “dwarfs previous attempts in both scale and complexity,” the Department of Defense said.

Many of the unidentified anomalous phenomena incidents were near restricted military airspace.

Coalition forces on the ground reported minor injuries in one of the attacks, according to U.S. military officials.
